Established in 1946, it spans about 117 square kilometers (45 square miles) and is home to a wide variety of animals, including lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, and giraffes. The park is notable for its proximity to urban areas, offering a dramatic contrast between wildlife and the city skyline. It also plays a critical role in rhino conservation, housing both black and white rhinos. The park is a popular destination for tourists and residents alike, offering game drives, picnic spots, and walking trails.

6:00 AM – Arrival and Early Morning Game Drive
– Arrive at the park early for the best chance to spot wildlife as many animals are active in the cooler hours of the morning.
– Drive through the park and keep an eye out for lions, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and rhinos. The early morning light offers excellent photography opportunities.
– Visit the park’s savannah plains and take in views of wildlife with the city skyline in the background.

9:00 AM – Breakfast/Tea Break
– Take a break at one of the picnic spots, like the Kingfisher Picnic Site, and enjoy a packed breakfast or tea.

10:00 AM – Visit the Ivory Burning Site Monument
– Stop by this significant historical site where Kenya’s former presidents have burned ivory to show their commitment to wildlife conservation.

11:00 AM – Rhino Sanctuary
– Head towards the Rhino Sanctuary, a section of the park dedicated to protecting critically endangered black rhinos.

12:30 PM – Lunch Break
– Head to one of the designated picnic sites, such as the Impala Observation Point, for a picnic lunch with views of the park’s vast landscapes.
– Alternatively, exit the park for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants before re-entering for the afternoon activities.

2:00 PM – Explore the Wetlands and Riverine Areas
– In the afternoon, explore the park’s wetlands and rivers, such as the Athi Basin, where you can spot hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.
– Enjoy birdwatching, with a chance to see over 400 bird species, including ostriches, crowned cranes, and herons.

3:30 PM – Nairobi Animal Orphanage
– It is a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned, injured, or abandoned wildlife. Established in 1964, it serves as both a wildlife rescue center and a breeding ground for some endangered species. The orphanage cares for a wide range of animals, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, monkeys, baboons, and various bird species.

4:30 PM – Late Afternoon Game Drive
– Embark on another game drive as the day cools down and animals become more active.
– Watch for lions, cheetahs, and other wildlife as you head towards the exit.

6:00 PM – Exit the Park
– Leave the park before sunset, as the park closes at 6:00 PM. Reflect on the day’s adventures as you head back to Nairobi.
